Relax and unwind in our welcoming and comfortable traditional cottage, with amazing viewsof the surrounding open fields and moorland, and end your stay feeling relaxed, restored and refreshed.
The cottage, built in local stone with its original beams, exudes warmth and character and has been standing for nearly 200 years, nestling in the heart of Bronte country. You will wake up to beautiful unspoilt scenery, even when it's raining, looking out over the hills and the nearby village of Oxenhope. Breakfast with your friendly farmyard neighbours looking in; a menagerie of rabbits, hens, geese, sheep, and occasionally the donkeys.
Ideally situated for lovely scenic walks the dramatic Yorkshire Moors are on the doorstep. Step outside and follow in the footsteps of the
Bronte sisters to the
Bronte waterfalls, “Wuthering Heights”, Haworth Church and Parsonage, and the
Worth Valley Railway, as featured in The Railway Children films, in Oxenhope.
At the top of the lane you can visit the
falconry experiences. Walk to Haworth, up the cobbled main street, and enjoy the many pubs and cafes including the
Black Bull, a favourite of Branwell Bronte. The cottage is also within easy driving distance of many charming Yorkshire towns -Hebden Bridge with its independent shops and cafes, Skipton, the gateway to the Dales, and Ilkley, with the famous Betty's tearooms. The cottage has been in our family since the 1850’s. Our great-aunts – Martha, Sarah and Alice lived here for many years, until the 1990’s. You will see Martha's photograph in the cottage, she was something of a local celebrity due to her knowledge of local history, and the people who lived in the area. She was even sought out by a Professor from Japan to translate the Yorkshire dialect in Wuthering Heights. She wrote and published a novel set in the local area, and her own account of her life, “A tale that is told”, was produced as a local history booklet. Our late mother, Hazel, started up the holiday cottage and was known to many of our regulars. A talented artist, her artwork is still on display in the cottage. Once again three sisters look after the cottage, Gillian, Alison and Caroline who took over the business in 2015, and continue to provide a warm welcome to all our guests, some of their comments can be found below.
